Features

After testing this treadmill for a few weeks, here are some of my favorite things about this treadmill! Note that I haven’t listed these in any specific order.

1. Incline Adjustment

I can’t talk about “incline trainers” without mentioning the treadmill’s incline, right? The x22i inclines to 40%, but you can adjust the settings to -6% if you’d like.

Regardless of your ability levels, you’ll find the x22i can accommodate you, but I think it shines when you set its incline to 6% and above. This is when the workout gets nice and challenging.

In other treadmills, you’d expect engaging the incline to cause tons of noise, but the x22i treadmill defies this trend, thanks to NordicTrack’s additional tech.

NordicTrack’s Quiet Drive Incline Tech will ensure that you won’t hear a terrible grinding noise as you raise and lower the treadmill’s running surface.

If you do, I’d call that an early warning system to check your unit for repairs!

2. Reflex Cushioning

This treadmill has motors that can raise your running surface to mimic a steep incline. This is a great feature to increase the intensity of your workouts, plus it comes with added protection!

With this Reflex Cushioning feature, the NordicTrack x22i is safer and will ease some pressure off your joints as you exercise.

I found my steps pleasantly springy during use, almost as if I was keeping a steady walking pace in well-cushioned shoes.

3. Safety Features

If you’re using this treadmill for walking, you’ll probably be using it flat, but I found myself moving up to the incline after a few days. I was itching for a little more speed, so I wanted to see what the incline training was like.

You may be a little concerned about the inclines since they provide an added risk of falling, but NordicTrack has provided a few trusty safeguards in this treadmill.

Any cardio program will eventually require you to pick up speed, especially if you’re training for a marathon. Fortunately, the x22i has a standard safety key for fast-paced workouts.

It’s attached to both you and the treadmill and will automatically deactivate the device once it’s disconnected so that you won’t get stuck on a fast-moving belt!

Large handles can accommodate your weight if you want to do dips or other exercises.

4. Horsepower and Motor

If you want your incline training to get you anywhere, you’ll need a solid machine with a powerful motor. Fortunately, the NordicTrack Commercial x22i treadmill fits the bill.

Your motor will need enough power to run continuously without wearing out and be able to handle the weight of whoever’s using it. 2.5-3.0 CHP or continuous horsepower should be fine.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the NordicTrack x22i treadmill has a CHP of 4.0, which is more than enough, even if I went all out!

To help keep the treadmill cool, NordicTrack’s added a pair of workout fans that will ramp up in intensity to match your pace as you run.

I tried going all out and could barely hear them.

5. Weight Tolerance

You don’t want a machine that can’t handle your weight, right? I’m a little heavy, but I had no problems with this incline treadmill during my workouts, unlike with other treadmills.

The x22i is a hefty machine, but it only has a maximum load capacity of 300lbs, which is fairly low for a treadmill with this kind of construction quality and price point.

I believe that NordicTrack designed the x22i with a lower tolerance to keep the price within reasonable limits.

6. Screen Size And User Experience

NordicTrack outfitted the x22i with a new and improved display console, which was a godsend for me. The larger screen it came with provided me with

The display is equipped with a nice and responsive touchscreen, kind of like a large tablet.

I found the tablet easy to manipulate, plus it was a breeze to change its orientation.

One tap will quickly open the right menu, plus the physical buttons are just as responsive.

7. Self-Cooling

Working out on an incline trainer will eventually tax the motor and you, so you’ll need to find a way to keep cool! Fortunately, the x22i has built-in self-cooling to prevent you from overheating.

With Dual Autobreeze fans to keep you nice and temperate, the x22i can be used even in the sweltering heat. You can set the fans’ strength yourself or leave it to the machine in auto mode.

Auto mode tracks the treadmills’ belt speed as you run and automatically ramps up or slows down alongside you. I used auto mode most of the time and never felt super warm.

Price

The NordicTrack x22i incline treadmill has tons of high-tech features and a corresponding price. I suggest picking up the x22i if you’ve got a more flexible budget.

That’s because this not-so-lean machine will cost you $2999 when writing. The x22i is considered a mid-range treadmill, but it’s still fairly pricey!

Before you sign up for this incline trainer or an iFit subscription, make sure you know what you’re getting into! While I love using the x22i, I think giving you a proper heads-up is best.

Warranty

Nordic Warranties

Unfortunately, despite their treadmills improving, NordicTrack’s warranty has become less and less flexible over time. I guess it’s getting harder to make all those small parts!

The warranty is divided into 3 individual parts:

  • 10 years for the frame
  • 2 years for the parts
  • 1 year for labor or any repair needs

Note that all these warranties will take effect once you’ve bought your treadmill before it can ship or the delivery arrives at your door.

Handling Issues

If you have an issue with your Nordictrack Commercial X22i treadmill, you can contact the manufacturer and ask them to facilitate a return for repairs.

However, NordicTrack will charge you a hefty restocking fee of $250 for any issues you may run into, as NordicTrack’s committed to fixing all issues in-house.

This fee will apply even if you’re still under warranty since NordicTrack ensures you have your machine repaired instead of returning it.

Fortunately, I didn’t run into any issues requiring me to return the x22i for repairs, but I’ve heard some customers complain about their units.

Dimensions

x22i dimensions

One NordicTrack Commercial x22i is a large device, and it’s not foldable like other treadmills either. Before setting up this treadmill, ensure a dedicated space for workouts.

Here’s a quick rundown of the treadmill’s dimensions when fully assembled:

  • Length: 70″
  • Width: 39″
  • Height: 72.5″
  • Max capacity: 300lbs.
  • Top speed: 12 MPH

The x22i has a step-up height of 15 inches at its basic incline and 34 inches at max height, so ensure you set it up somewhere with enough height clearance for the tallest person who’ll use it!

Functionality and Storage

NordicTrack’s under the same company as iFit, so you can also access iFit workouts for different programs and training regimens or if you want to exercise with the help of a trainer.

There’s also a pair of little storage areas behind the screen. I call them “little,” but I could easily use one as a water bottle holder with some space to spare!

Don’t expect to find any space for your stuff underneath the console since it might fall off once the whole treadmill inclines upward or downward.

The console also has fairly limited integration. While it seamlessly integrates with NordicTrack, ProForm, and FreeMotion devices, it can’t promise the same support for other devices.

If you’ve got an up-to-date Apple or Android device, like a watch or tablet, you can use them while undergoing the interval training program.

Unfortunately, there aren’t any built-in programs on the NordicTrack x22i besides iFit. You’ll need to look for a guide if you want to use a non-iFit program.

Assembly

While I’ve had positive experiences with NordicTrack equipment, on the whole, I can’t say it was easy to assemble this machine. Assembly and setting this up took me the better part of an afternoon, even with help.

NordicTrack provides a detailed manual alongside the treadmill itself, but they also offer extra assembly services that you can avail of alongside their delivery.

I opted to assemble the machine myself, but I’d probably take their White Glove delivery service for next time. The manual is a real doozy to get through, and I’m (frankly) not good with assembling things!

Delivery and Shipping

Once you’ve ordered your treadmill, you’ll have to wait a few weeks before you can start burning calories on the x22i.

Expect your order to ship a few business days after ordering and the delivery to take 2-3 weeks. You can opt for standard delivery or have it assembled in your home or apartment.

The special assembly option is only available in select areas, too. If you’re in a country outside of the USA, don’t expect delivery. Unfortunately, NordicTrack only delivers within the US.

iFit Membership

ifit App

NordicTrack offers a free family membership for 30 days after setting up your treadmill, which is great if you’ve been trying to get the rest of your family moving.

I should mention that you’ll need a stable internet connection to use the family plan fully.

NOTE: If you intend to get a family membership to iFit, ensure your treadmill is somewhere tall enough to accommodate the tallest person in your family. Otherwise, they’ll risk hurting their head.

Bonus Features

The x22i has a few digitally amplified speakers if you want to listen to music during your workout, but this may be an issue if you exercise in a shared space with your family members.

If you don’t want to use the sound system while walking, the x22i is also Bluetooth-capable. Set up your Bluetooth headphones and treat yourself to a motivational training session in peace!

The console also has large and clearly-labeled buttons, which made it easier for me to adjust the speed to my liking.

NordicTrack Commercial x22i Alternatives

Though I’ve enjoyed using the x22i, here are a few other treadmills I’ve tried. I’ve included these brand reviews for comparison.

1. Horizon 7.0 AT

If you’re a runner who wants to train to buff the skeletal muscle in their legs, but your budget’s looking a little lean, then the 7.0 AT is for you.

The 7.0 AT is a foldable, affordable treadmill that’s sturdily built and easy to move. While the screen may be too small for you, and it’s not a touchscreen, it’s simple and effective.

Pros

  • Long tread belt
  • Built-in heart rate monitor

Cons

  • Lower max incline

2. Sole TT8

If you like the x22i incline treadmill but wish it had greater integration with non-iFit apps, then the Sole TT8 might be a better fit.

The TT8 has a tough tread built to last and a nice width for runners of all sizes. It’s also got a low step-up height, making it ideal regardless of height.

Pros

  • Strong stock motor
  • Easy to move when needed

Cons

  • Buttons don’t allow very precise control

How Can I Workout My Upper Body With the NordicTrack X22i?

While I love a good cardio session, sometimes I want to work off my calories in other ways. Fortunately, NordicTrack has stuffed its treadmills with different programs and features.

If you sign up for an iFit membership, the x22i’s large screen can display a variety of studio-based classes, including strength training workouts.

Once you’ve finished working on your cardio, select a trainer-led class from iFit’s wide selection and get moving!

TIP: NordicTrack’s AutoAdjust feature will help your treadmill set its speed to match your current pace, letting you skip having to change your current exercise settings!

Is the NordicTrack Commercial x22i Incline Treadmill Worth It?

If your search for a treadmill has led you far and wide, you can safely stop here. The NordicTrack x22i is a trusty tool that makes my workouts easier.

My weight loss journey’s been much easier and smoother with every minute and second thanks to this bulky rig, which is more than I can say about other treadmills.

Despite being fairly pricey, this treadmill’s got enough features that help it earn its price, and it has enough power to give even seasoned runners a bit of a challenge.

I’d say it’s worth it, even though it has a large footprint and a fairly high step-up height. Remember to monitor your younger relatives when they use the x22i.

What’s the Weight of the NordicTrack Commercial X22i?

NordicTrack designed the x22i to accommodate runners with a weight of 300 lbs. and below, but the machine itself is a whopping 417 lbs.

You get a high-quality piece of exercise gear for this weight, but I found it too chunky to move up and down the stairs, so I opted to set it up on my first floor.

The manufacturer’s website recommends getting help before you begin assembling the x22i since you’ll be using heavier parts. I had some help but still had trouble, so be warned!

What Else Comes in the Box?

NordicTrack’s included a Bluetooth-powered chest strap within the box, which you can use to set up a heart rate monitor to get real-time data on your heart rate as you work out.

Following a set cardio or HIIT program will help you track your progress steadily and help if you need to keep your heart rate within a specific range.

I’m not setting myself up for a marathon or anything like that, but I think the included chest strap can help turn your x22i into a super intense workout aid in a pinch.

How Can You Reduce the Sound of Your Workout?

Cardio can be noisy, especially if you live in an apartment and do high-speed training sessions. If you’re worried about irritating your neighbors while you exercise, follow these tips.

First, I recommend checking your treadmill’s belt for any wear issues and see if it’s become loose with use. Tighten it up if you’ve got the tools, or contact a technician for the repairs.

The next step is to spread a shock-absorbing mat across your exercise space. Regardless of your weight or the level of your treadmill’s incline, the extra cushioning will help dampen sound.

Another option you can try is to start incline training. Even if you’re just walking, using your machine at an incline can drastically reduce the sound you make while improving your overall exercise.

What Is iFit?

If you’re wondering what iFit is, it’s a handy mobile app that’ll help spice up your workout in terms of variety and keep it fresh, so you don’t get bored while doing cardio.

iFit’s selection covers various topics, from cardio and aerobic exercise to meditation and mindfulness classes. You’ll need a subscription to use the app fully, but it’s fairly affordable.

You can also use it for streaming media, but don’t expect to watch movies while running. It’s loaded with journeys to different places, so you can “explore” as you jog.

I prefer to focus when I jog, so I opted to use headphones, which worked just as well!

NordicTrack Commercial x22i Treadmill Bottom Line Review

I’m a big fan of the Nordictrack Commercial x22i treadmill because it’s easily adjustable regardless of your skill level and integrates well with iFit programs.

Though I found the warranty fairly strict, NordicTrack’s prompt delivery and quality construction were a great addition to an already-solid treadmill.

I only used the digitally amplified speakers while selecting a trainer-led class, but they were clear enough for normal use and didn’t sound too tinny. Overall, I’d strongly recommend the NordicTrack Commercial x22i!
