Product Review

Smooth Fitness 9.45TV Treadmill

The Smooth 9.45TV Treadmill is a deluxe model from Smooth with something you usually only find in gym treadmills – a 15″ LCD TV.

The TV is more than twice the size of standard TV treadmills (which usually run about 7″). Plus unlike other TV treadmills, this TV is set on it’s own separate frame.

This means that even when you pick up the pace or increase your incline, the TV never shakes or wobbles – which makes for much better watching.

Features:

  • MSRP Price: $5397
  • Sale Price: $2099 + Free Shipping
  • Motor: 3.0 HP
  • Speed: 0.5-11 MPH

Product Pros And Cons

Smooth Fitness 9.45TV Treadmill

1) 15″ flat screen LCD TV

This is a similar set-up as you’d find in a $4000 health club treadmill – and more than twice the size as other home TV treadmills.

This TV sits above the console on it’s own tilting frame and comes with it’s own manual and warranty.

The TV comes with connectors for Cable, Satellite, DVD player or even a video game console. It includes 2 hi-fidelity 5 Watt speakers and a plug for your headphones if you want to keep things quiet while working out.

The Smooth 9.45TV attaches separately and can be easily removed if it needs repair – without affecting the treadmill operation.

2) Hydra Suspension Adjustable Cushioning

This is a premium cushioning system that Smooth is only putting on some of their luxury 9-series of treadmills. It helps to protect your knees, hips, ankles and back from the jarring impact that often comes with running.

With this system you can also adjust the cushioning to 12 different levels. The suspension lets you choose the softness of where the ball of your foot lands while keeping the place where your foot takes off firmer.

This is a great feature to have since different users often prefer various levels of deck firmness.

3) Speed Up Or Down With a Wave Of Your Hand

Motion control on the side rails is only found on the Smooth 9-series including the 9.45.  To speed up you wave your hand over the motion control on one handrail and to slow down you wave your hand over the other handrail.

While most people will like this feature, it’s especially handy for taller runners as you don’t have to break your stride while running in order to change your speed.

(Sometimes when you have long legs, leaning close to the console to adjust the speed can result in you running up against the treadmill hood – depending on how the frame is built).

4) Built To Withstand Heavy Use

With a 400 lb user weight capacity, this is a much higher weight capacity than you’ll find in most standard home treadmills. Along with a 290 lb machine weight and commercial grade deck it makes for a very stable feeling treadmill. With the heavier construction, the 9.45 can take a lot of use (and abuse) and still hold up well over the long run.

5) Extra Long 60″ Running Belt

The longer running area on the Smooth 9.45 TV treadmill makes it ideal for taller users or runners who really want more room to pick up their pace.

6) Lifetime Warranty – Including Parts

While many treadmills give you a lifetime frame warranty, it’s hard to find one that covers the motor and parts for a lifetime.  Even commercial $4000 treadmills don’t cover parts for a lifetime so this is amazing.

Also note the 2 years on service which is also more than you get with other luxury treadmills. This can also save you a lot of money should something go wrong with your treadmill.

Pros

  • 15" flat screen LCD TV
  • Hydra Suspension Adjustable Cushioning
  • Speed Up Or Down With a Wave Of Your Hand
  • Built To Withstand Heavy Use
  • Extra Long 60" Running Belt
  • Lifetime Warranty - Including Parts

Cons

  • No Prominent Cons

Proform Performance 1450 Treadmill

1) 10″ Built In Web Browser

The Performance 1450 comes with a 10″ built-in web browser. This uses the wireless internet in your home to go online. You can read emails, watch your favorite TV shows, catch up on the business news or even login to Facebook. This alone will make your workouts a lot more enjoyable and productive.

2) iFit LIVE Built-In

Because of the web browser, you can get iFit LIVE already built in (you don’t need to buy the extra iFit LIVE module, which you do with lower end Proform models).  With iFit LIVE built-in you can get workouts powered by Googlemaps that simulate trails all over the world.

You can also get workouts where Jillian Michaels coaches you through your workouts. You can also download new workouts to your treadmill. Basically, there’s so much to do, you’ll never get bored with this treadmill.

3) iPod Port With Speakers Built Into the Console

You can listen to your favorite workout mix by plugging your iPod or MP3 player into the console.  The music comes out of the console speakers (which on this treadmill use 3″ high-excursion drivers – giving you better sound clarity than many other treadmills with speaker systems)

4) 26 Built In Workouts

If you don’t want to use iFit Live you still get lots of workouts – 26 built in workouts with this treadmill. You can choose from 7 high intensity, 7 incline, 6 speed or 6 calorie-burn workouts to help you reach your goals.

5)  Lengthy Warranty with 2 Years On Service

The warranty on the Proform 1450 treadmill is one of the best in the industry. You get lifetime coverage on frame and motor and 5 years on parts. Of special note is the 2 years on service. This can end up saving you a lot of money should something go wrong with your treadmill.

6) One Touch Speed and Incline

This is a little touch that’s still really handy. Instead of scrolling through all your options when you want to change incline or speed levels, you just hit one button and the treadmill adjusts. This also helps as it doesn’t throw off your stride if you’re running or walking fast.

Pros

  • 10" Built In Web Browser
  • iFit LIVE Built-In
  • iPod Port With Speakers Built Into the Console
  • 26 Built In Workouts
  • Lengthy Warranty with 2 Years On Service

2) Extra Wide 22″ Belt

Most treadbelts these days run from 18″ – 20″ wide. The extra wide 22″ belt gives you some extra luxury space. Plus the belt is one of the longest you can get – 60″. So you can easily pick up your pace without feeling like you’re falling off the treadmill.

3) iFit LIVE Built-In

You can get iFit LIVE already built in with this treadmill (you don’t need the extra iFit LIVE module which you have to pay for this their lower end models).  With iFit LIVE you can get workouts powered by Googlemaps that simulate trails all over the world. You can also get workouts where Jillian Michaels coaches you through your workouts. You can download new workouts to your treadmill and even track your workout stats online. Basically, there’s so much to do, you won’t get bored with this treadmill.

4) 3% Decline

In addition to up to 15% incline, you also have the option to decline with this treadmill.

This can give you a better crosstraining workout, more variety and also, as stated above, it lends a more realistic feel to when you’re walking a trail using the iFit LIVE.

5) Super Powered 3.8 HP Motor

This is one of the highest motor powers at this price point. It easily powers the extra large 22 x 60″ belt. You don’t have to worry that your motor has to struggle to keep up when you’re running or doing fast intervals

6) iPod Port With Speakers Built Into the Console

So you don’t want to surf the net or run a marathon using Googlemaps?  You can take it easy and listen to your favorite tunes using the iPod dock. Sit back and relax while your favorite music plays out of the console speakers.
