Product Reviews

1) Smooth 9.45TV Treadmill

The Smooth 9.45 TV Treadmill is a deluxe model from Smooth with something you usually only find in gym treadmills – a 15″ LCD TV.
The TV is more than twice the size of standard TV treadmills (which usually run about 7″). Plus unlike other TV treadmills, this TV is set on it’s own separate frame.
This means that even when you pick up the pace or increase your incline, the TV never shakes or wobbles – which makes for much better watching.

Features:

  • MSRP Price: $5397
  • Sale Price: $2099 + Free Shipping
  • Motor: 3.0 HP
  • Speed: 0.5-11 MPH
  • Incline:  0-15%

Verdict: Highly Recommended

The Smooth 9.45 TV Treadmill is one the best treadmills for running and exercises, similar to the ones you see in high-end gyms. We love the separate set-up of the TV and treadmill which gives you a stable TV that won’t shake while running and working out.

You also get a highly stable feel, motion control on the handrails, extra long 60″ belt, lifetime warranty and 12 levels of adjustable cushioning to protect your joints.

If you’re looking to replace your gym membership with a true TV health club treadmill – the 9.45 TV treadmill is worth checking out.

Other fun features on this treadmill are the iFit LIVE – where you can download new workouts to your treadmill, or run different trails all over the world, using Googlemaps. This is made more realistic with a 3% decline feature and a 7″ full-color touch screen.

Verdict: Highly Recommended

The Nordic Track Commercial 1750 treadmill is recommended for people looking for a sturdy, well-built treadmill that can take a beating when they are working out or exercising. It’s a higher construction grade than many treadmills at this price point with a super-strong deck and stable feel.

Plus there’s a softer side – the iFit Live helps keep you entertained with new workouts and running trails with Google Terrain. And the 3% decline helps lend a more realistic feel to your iFit LIVE workouts (also great for crosstraining).

The iPod dock with speakers lets you listen to your favorite tunes while you exercise. And the large touch-screen display makes it easy to scroll through your workout options. All in all, a strong treadmill that runners will love.

On the softer side, you get an advanced health club style console, iPod port with speakers and heart rate control programs to keep you in your target range.

Verdict: Highly Recommended

The Sole F85 is a commercial grade luxury machine with pretty much everything you could ever want in a treadmill to aid you while you exercise or workout.

With a high powered motor, Whisper Deck, Cushion Flex cushioning, health club console, highly stable feel, iPod dock and one of the longest warranties on the market, the Sole F85 feels like a health club machine – without the commercial price tag.

While occasional walkers can probably save a bit and go with the F80, the Sole F85 is the ideal treadmill for runners. It will hold up well over the long run, even if you use it every day.

Product Pros And Cons

Smooth 9.45TV

1) 15″ flat screen LCD TV

This is a similar set-up as you’d find in a $4000 health club treadmill – and more than twice the size as other home TV treadmills.

This TV sits above the console on it’s own tilting frame and comes with it’s own manual and warranty. The TV comes with connectors for Cable, Satellite, DVD player or even a video game console. It includes 2 hi-fidelity 5 Watt speakers and a plug for your headphones if you want to keep things quiet while exercising.

The Smooth 9.45 TV attaches separately and can be easily removed if it needs repair – without affecting the treadmill operation.

2) Hydra Suspension Adjustable Cushioning

This is a premium cushioning system that Smooth is only putting on some of their luxury 9-series of treadmills. It helps to protect your knees, hips, ankles and back from the jarring impact that often comes with running.

With this system you can also adjust the cushioning to 12 different levels. The suspension lets you choose the softness of where the ball of your foot lands while keeping the place where your foot takes off firmer.

This is a great feature to have since different users often prefer various levels of deck firmness.

3) Speed Up Or Down With a Wave Of Your Hand

Motion control on the side rails is only found on the Smooth 9-series including the 9.45.  To speed up you wave your hand over the motion control on one handrail and to slow down you wave your hand over the other handrail.

While most people will like this feature, it’s especially handy for taller runners as you don’t have to break your stride while running in order to change your speed.

(Sometimes when you have long legs, leaning close to the console to adjust the speed can result in you running up against the treadmill hood – depending on how the frame is built).

4) Built To Withstand Heavy Use

With a 400 lb user weight capacity, this is a much higher weight capacity than you’ll find in most standard home treadmills. Along with a 290 lb machine weight and commercial grade deck it makes for a very stable feeling treadmill. With the heavier construction, the 9.45 can take a lot of use (and abuse) and still hold up well over the long run.

5) Extra Long 60″ Running Belt

The longer running area on the Smooth 9.45 TV treadmill makes it ideal for taller users or runners who really want more room to pick up their pace.

6) Lifetime Warranty – Including Parts

While many treadmills give you a lifetime frame warranty, it’s hard to find one that covers the motor and parts for a lifetime.  Even commercial $4000 treadmills don’t cover parts for a lifetime so this is amazing.

Also note the 2 years on service which is also more than you get with other luxury treadmills. This can also save you a lot of money should something go wrong with your treadmill.

Pros

  • 15" flat screen LCD TV
  • Hydra Suspension Adjustable Cushioning
  • Speed Up Or Down With a Wave Of Your Hand
  • Built To Withstand Heavy Use
  • Extra Long 60" Running Belt
  • Lifetime Warranty - Including Parts

Cons

  • No Prominent Weaknesses

NordicTrack Commercial 1750

1) iFit Live Built In

You can get iFit LIVE already built in with this treadmill (you don’t need the extra iFit LIVE module).  With iFit LIVE you can get workouts powered by Googlemaps that simulate trails all over the world. You can also map out your own trails that you want to run and exercise in.

You can also get workouts where Jillian Michaels coaches you through your workouts. You can download new workouts to your treadmill and even track your workout stats online. Basically, there are so many exercises to do, you won’t get bored with this treadmill.

2) Full Color Touch-Screen Display

The large 7″ display makes it easy to read your stats like speed, pace, distance, time, calories burned, pulse and incline.  You can choose your workout options with the swipe of a finger. Plus the full-color display is really neat when you’re using the iFit LIVE to run different trails as it shows you the terrain in full color.

3) 3% Decline

In addition to up to 15% incline, you also have the option to decline with this treadmill, which is something you don’t find on most machines.

This can give you a better crosstraining workout, more variety and also, as stated above, it lends a more realistic feel to when you’re walking a trail using the iFit LIVE.

4) Stronger Construction For Added Stability

The Commercial 1750 is built to a higher construction standard with more substance to it than lesser priced Nordic Tracks. They use large precision-machines 3″ rollers, which can stand up longer under more stress.  The 350 lb weight capacity, high powered 3.5 HP motor and heavier unit weight also help to contribute to a sturdier, more stable feel – great for runners or those who like to power walk.

5) Extra Long 60″ Treadbelt For Extra Running Space

This is currently the longest treadbelt that Nordic Track makes and is especially popular with runners or taller users. You can pick up the pace without feeling like you’re falling off the treadmill.

6) Workout Fan That Adjusts To Your Speed

The large 8″ console workout fan actually can adjust to your workout speed. You can also choose to set it on a specific setting like low medium or high.

7) iPod Port With Built-In Speakers For More Enjoyable Workouts

You can plug your iPod or MP3 player into the built-in audio jack and listen to your favorite music while you workout. While this is becoming a fairly standard feature in higher end treadmills, it’s still nice to have and can make your workouts a lot more enjoyable.

8) 30 Built In Workouts

In addition to iFit LIVE workouts, you also get a total of 30 built-in workouts with the Commercial 1750. There are 20 calorie-burning workouts designed to burn maximum calories and there are also 10 All-Terrain Workouts which automatically adjust your speed and incline during the workout to simulate a different terrain.  There’s also a Set-A-Goal center where you can choose your desired time, calorie and distance preferences for the workout.

9) Extra Long Warranty with 2 Years on Service

The Commercial 1750 is currently being offered with an extra long warranty. The motor and frame are covered for a lifetime. Parts are covered for 5 years and labor is covered for 2 years.

Of special note is the 2 years on service – which is excellent.  With other brands, you usually only get 1 year on service. This alone can save you quite a bit of money.

Pros

  • iFit Live Built In
  • Full Color Touch-Screen Display
  • 3% Decline
  • Stronger Construction For Added Stability
  • Extra Long 60" Treadbelt For Extra Running Space
  • Workout Fan That Adjusts To Your Speed
  • iPod Port With Built-In Speakers For More Enjoyable Workouts
  • 30 Built In Workouts
  • Extra Long Warranty with 2 Years on Service

Cons

  • iFit Live capability Dependent On Wireless Internet At Home

Sole Fitness F85

1) 22″ Wide Belt Gives You Extra Room To Move

This is the widest belt you’ll find in the industry. With the extra 60″ length, runners and taller users will love the space on this treadmill.

2) 3.5 HP Ultra High Torque Motor With Flywheel To Extend the Life of Your Treadmill

The F85 packs a whopping 3.5 HP ultra high torque motor with a large diameter, balanced flywheel. The flywheel causes the motor to run cooler with less amp draw. This extends the life of your motor and gives a much more stable feel. You also get a lifetime motor warranty which helps protect your investment.

3) Most Advanced Console – Backlit with Heart Rate Control

The F85’s Console is more advanced than previous models with a bright blue backlit console and a message board for clear feedback. It also allows for more customization.

For example, the heart-rate control option automatically calculates your recommended target range based on your age. There are 2 heart rate control workouts (where the treadmill adjusts speed/incline to keep you in your target zone) as well as 6 built-in programs and 2 more customizable programs.

4) CushionFlex Cushioning Reduces Joint Impact By 40%

Good cushioning is essential in a treadmill, especially if you’re a runner, as cheap treadmill cushioning can damage your knees, back, hips and ankles.

The Sole Cushion Flex system on the F85 treadmill is one of the best cushioning systems on the market. It’s actually been shown in a university study to reduce impact by 40% compared to running on asphalt. So you get great protection for your joints.

5) Speed and Incline Controls on Arm Rests

With these side handrail controls, you can change your speed or incline with the touch of a button on the arm rests instead of reaching up to the console.

This comes in handy, especially when you pick up your pace and don’t want to reach up to the console which can throw off your stride or your momentum while you exercise.

6)  iPod / Mp3 Dock with Speakers

You can plug in your iPod or mp3 and listen to your favorite music or audiobook through the built in console speakers. There’s also a headphone jack if you prefer (which many treadmills don’t offer). This can make your workout a lot more enjoyable.

7) Strong Deck For Stable, Shake-Free Running & Quiet Operation

Sole’s Whisper Deck is more quiet than even standard Phenolic coated decks. The deck also comes with a lifetime warranty so you never have to worry about replacing the deck. Sole will do it for you – Free.

Sole decks are also extremely strong so they can take a pounding. When we compared them to several other department store brands, they just felt more substantial, especially when you start to run.

8) Horseshoe Folding Frame Adds Stability

Many times, because of the limits of the design, folding treadmills are not as stable as non-folding units. So you save space but sacrifice on stability.

Sole however uses a special double horseshoe folding frame on their folding treadmills including the F85. This frame makes their folding treadmills more stable than many non-folding treadmills. So you can get a folding treadmill without sacrificing on stability.

Plus the F85 has a reinforced framework which makes it more stable than the F80 or F83 with a higher user weight capacity – 400 lbs.

9) Excellent Warranty With 2 Years On Service To Protect Your Investment

The Sole F85 treadmill comes with a lifetime warranty on the frame, deck and motor.  Electronics, belt and rollers are covered for 5 years and labor is covered for 2 years.  This is one of the best warranties on the market.

Of special note is the 2 years on service – which is excellent.  With other brands, you usually only get 1 year on service. This alone can save you quite a bit of money.

  • 22" Wide Belt Gives You Extra Room To Move
  • 3.5 HP Ultra High Torque Motor With Flywheel To Extend the Life of Your Treadmill
